Cartoons aren't like they used to be!

Before Ryan became old enough to watch cartoons, I was very disappointed with the cartoons that were available. I would see ads for Pokimon, Spongebob, Avatar, etc., and I remember thinking that they just don't make cartoons like they used to. What is going to happen to kids these days watching stuff like Spongebob??? I was concerned. I remember getting up at 6am on Saturday morning to watch cartoons like Gummi Bears, the Smurfs, and Thunder Cats ( I wanted to be Cheetah-Ra so bad, I would practice running to see if my legs would move as fast as hers.....I should have kept practicing.) We'd also watch She-Ra, He-Man, Duck Tales and so on.
So one day I go and find a DVD of Tom and Jerry and think "HEY! COOL! My girls can grow up watching things I watched when I was young." So I bought it and took it home and began to watch it with my girls. Ummm....I don't recall Tom getting hit square in the face with a frying pan so many times. Or any of the other big plans of causing as much pain as possible to one another. We watched the Smurfs instead.....within ten minutes, Handy hit a smurf on the head with a hammer and called him Stupid. Ok.
I just couldn't bear to watch Dora the Explorer anymore! Why must they yell everything!??! Wonder Pets.....annoying..."This is Se-wious!" But after you watch it a trillion times....I have my favorite episodes and I do appreciate that cartoons these days are about getting along in a happy-go-lucky world. Hey, if Dora helps my kids "Clean up, Clean Up, Everybody Clean up", I'll take it.
Ryan's favorite is Oswald and it is really cute, even though his catch phrase is "Omigosh."
Just stay away from Oobi....weird.

"Gummi Beary, Gummi Beary Juice
We can hop like, Kangaroos"

i agree with you, and oobi is WEIRD!!! I sill can't take the Wonder Pets though. And I happen to like Playhouse Disney right now. We go thru phases of Nick Jr or Playhouse Disney. And you know what else...PBS Kids has good cartoons too. I do miss Noggin though.

um, don't forget david the gnome and that one cartoon where they went to koalawala land and those koalas would come to life if you rubbed their noses...or grimm's fairy tales-"hey comes along and join the fun, it's a land of fairy tales.."

We used to watch Garfield and Friends too. LOL! Smurfs and Gummi Bears! Don't forget the Snorkles! Good times. Ohh, I can't stand Wonderpets either. Kendra was watching Dora the other day and Dora asked "What makes this sound? Oink oink." and Kendra answered "A pig. You're not very smart are you?" I busted a gut. :)

Oh oh! Today's Special! and one about a "windmill windmill turning around" do you know what that's from? It's driving me crazy. Oh and I loved Bill Cosby with his magic marker on Kapt. Kangaroo! Man, you've got me jogging down memory lane. We were big Sesame St. fans as well, I loved the teeny little super guy!

Cora watches Tom and Jerry all the time now. Mark got her hooked. But if you ask me, it is less vulgar than Spongebob so I don't mind. My favorite is Handy Manny. And I really love This is Daniel Cook. Lately though Cora has been obsessed with Lazy Town. That is getting old in a hurry. I do miss the good ole Smurfs!

My inlaws bought a Looney tunes DVD that had all the characters we watched as kids like tweety, Tom &Jerry, Bugs Bunny etc. I let them watch it and I watched it as a kid but like you said you don't remember them acting like that. An elmer fudd episode pulled out a gun and said "I'm gonna shoot you, you silly wabbit and blew his head off" I thought well that was appropriate, but I guess I'm not a thug so maybe they'll still turn out alright.

Grace is finally starting to sit still long enough to watch some cartoons. I am so glad to hear we feel the same way about Sponge Bob! I can't stand that show!!
