Put To Sleep

A Random Sampling of things my kids "put to sleep." Above: Dora's twin brother and Sister
Boo from Monsters, Inc., was promptly put to sleep in the hotel when we went to Disneyland.
Baby Jasmine sleeping on Ryan's Bed.
Even the Remote Control need it's beauty sleep.
Oh yes, the Superman punching bag is also tired.
Baby in dollhouse.
Wilbur asleep.....no wonder I can't find my towels or washcloths.
Wilbur again....
and again.....
And Mickey Mouse in the pack n' play.

Ryan can even put Riley Nelson to sleep. The funny thing with this is that my children are the worst bedtime kids around! They hate to go to sleep. I dread bedtime every night. So we usually resort to doing a Dairy Queen run and they fall asleep in the car, but that's not economical nor is it good for my waistline. Any advice for us??? I know kids that are sent to their rooms and they just fall asleep.....how do you do it?? And I don't want to hear "Stick to a bedtime routine...", we've tried that. I'm more interested in a choke hold.....or some secret ninja move where you hit a pressure point and they fall asleep. PLEASE....I'm tired.

We still do a routine, even though a simple routine never worked for us. But now I have a "Night Time Chart" which Cora gets to put a sticker up for each item we check off, ie. go potty, PJs on, read book. Then it's lights out and we send her to bed w/ 2 popsicle sticks. If she gets out of bed again she has to forfeit a stick, which is fine. But the sticks she doesn't use turn into Toys R Us dollars, so she has learned to stay in bed and hoard the sticks. When she has 25 sticks, we go to Toys R Us and she gets to pick out a small toy. I have a CRAZY daughter and bed time was a nightmare, but this works for her. If you try it, I would be interested to see how it goes....

Edna,
Our boys all go right to sleep when we put them to bed. No fights, no hassles, no complaints. This is how we do it:
1. We put Joshua in his crib with his bottle. We put his blanket over him. Then we turn out the light. If we are in a good mood, we'll give a clean diaper too.
2. We put Jacob down with no bottle. He also gets a blanket. Then we shut the door.
3. Finally, we ask Brandon and Blake to go to bed and they pretty much do everything to get ready without our help (or insistence).

That's our 3 step, fail-safe process. Does this help?

If not, they still have that kennel at Costco...

Those pictures are so cute! I love the wipes as blankets. My girls are pretty bad at going to bed, especially if they've had late naps. Some days I just skip the nap altogether. Which is great unless they fall asleep around 6 pm. Yikes! All nighter!

Yep routine works for us too we just get the kids bathed and then they play for about half an hour Madison goes to bed at 7:30 every night and Jake goes to bed at about 9:30 so he gets to watch movies and play but when we say its bedtime he does hate it and crys a little but he kisses daddy then we go in his room and he picks out a story and i read it to him and kiss him goodnight we turn on the night light and i leave the door open a crack cause he's "scared" but he's out in about 10 min. so that has worked for us for about 31/2 years no so i think we're doing pretty good.

OH Edna thats funny, I am coming to Yuma soon, I promise to call! Sometime in March. So Carter is horrible too and I hate it!!! Anyway I started telling him if he came out I was going to shut the door which he hates cause that means he's in the dark. So he gets a warning and then I shut it and lock it - he screams and cries and then I go open it and he usually stays. If Tim wasn't such a weenie I would lock it all night and make him cry himself to sleep in the dark I don't care!

I have three that go right to bed, and then there is Maverick. He is still in our bed (3 years), and he likes to stay up until I finally give in and go to sleep. We've tried everything! I've read books. I've solicited advice. I've prayed. Nothing works with him. I'm just hoping he'll grow out of it, but I was talking to a lady at work, and her son is seven and still in bed with them! He's finally moved to a twin bed pushed up next to her side of their mattress. Yikes! They are having a baby soon, and his twin bed in their room is taking up all the space. They asked him where they were supposed to put the crib. He told them the new baby could have his room!
